Our approach

Costs you can plan aroundbefore your case begins

We welcome the Solicitors Regulation Authority's guidance on publishing fees. For too long the public have been misled about the cost of engaging solicitors.

We will not instruct agents, and we will not instruct barristers at a cost of thousands of pounds because we do not believe that strengthens your case. We believe in our solicitors and in charging appropriate fees.

Private charging rate

£180per hour

Non-London rate, as set out in our terms of business. For motoring matters we agree to cap our fees at the amounts below.

Capped motoring fees

After many years in the motoring courts we agree with clients to limit our fees. The cap gives you certainty — it is not the point where we stop working.

  1. Motoring trial

    Full representation at a contested motoring trial.

    £600+ VAT

  2. Special Reasons trial

    Arguing special reasons not to endorse or disqualify.

  3. Exceptional Hardship hearing

    A single hearing to argue against a totting-up ban.

    £400+ VAT

  4. Plea in mitigation

    A single hearing, e.g. speeding or driving without due care.

All capped fees are shown plus VAT at 20%.

Criminal cases

Legal aid is available in most criminal cases

In the majority of criminal cases legal aid is available if you pass the threshold tests for seriousness and means. We discuss this in detail with anyone who seeks to instruct us, and we advise you to make a free appointment to discuss legal aid when charged or summonsed for a criminal offence.

The small print

  1. Every case is different. Following discussions with clients we can sometimes limit costs at lower than these figures, depending on the amount of work necessary.
  2. Capping our costs at a certain figure does not mean we stop working once it is reached. We agree a figure to give certainty of costs and will do everything required in every case.
  3. If your case requires expert reports or other disbursements external to our fee, we will discuss these with you in detail.
  4. Legal aid eligibility depends on the seriousness of the case and your means. Crown Court matters are covered by legal aid subject to means limits.
